The First Baptist Church Vision:
(A summary based on the responses received from Vision Night - Sunday, October 29, 2006)
With respect to ministry, we feel called of God to be a church that:
Effectively coordinates people’s involvement in meaningful ministry; provides the necessary training to help members succeed as ministers for Christ; gives priority to identifying ministry needs and communicating those needs to meaningfully involve as many people as possible in ministry; and is willing to “stretch” itself by venturing into new areas of ministry as God directs.
With respect to fellowship, we feel called of God to be a church that:
Carries out a comprehensive strategy to promote bringing folks from being Sunday morning visitors to becoming meaningfully involved in the fellowship of our church family; and promotes fellowship that is both intergenerational and age/interest specific through small group ministry, Sunday School, worship celebrations and other special gatherings.
With respect to worship, we feel called of God to be a church that:
Maintains a prayerful dependence on God; provides quality worship opportunities that relate to people of different ages, backgrounds, and spiritual status - where believers are fed, but also where unbelievers feel comfortable; that expresses love for God through worship that is creative, joyful, expressive and free; and experiences worship in such a way as to draw us into a deeper fellowship with God and one another; and encourages us to surrender ourselves more fully to serving God and honoring Him.
With respect to evangelism, we feel called of God to be a church that:
Is unapologetically committed to sharing our faith; aggressively and strategically seeks to communicate God’s love in an effort to reach out to every segment of our community; and partners with others in seeking to reach our world for Christ.
With respect to discipleship, we feel called of God to be a church that:
Is comprised of members who recognize that discipleship is a life long pursuit; carries out a comprehensive strategy of discipleship that takes a person from unbeliever, to seeker, to regular attender, to member, to servant, to leader; and makes use of small groups and Sunday School classes to foster the mutual accountability and transparency necessary to promote spiritual growth.
