Our Most Recent Trip

From Every Nation, Tribe, People, and Language

‘After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”’ Revelation 7:9-10   Have you ever wondered what this experience would be like? I think we received a small taste of this in Nepal where over 600 students sat on the ground for three full days Praising and Worshiping God.

Dr. David McFadden, pastor at FBC Portales, Claude Vigil, pastor at New Testament Baptist Church in Portales, and Charlie Crane each had a part at this conference, sponsored by FBC Portales. The theme of the conference was: Living a Life Filled With Peace and Justice, taken from the beatitudes. There were 120 professions of faith at this conference.

FBC Portales became involved in Nepal four years ago with the translation of the Jesus Film into the Rana Tharu language. Since then there have been six mission trips to Nepal including the premiere of the Rana Tharu Jesus Film where 5000 people showed up to view the film, the first movie translated into that heart language. FBC is also sponsoring five church planters in Nepal in addition to a Jesus Film team, they have also been involved in some micro-loan development projects (to assist believers who have lost their means of support due to their faith), providing bicycles for church workers, and some water filtration projects to remove arsenic from the drinking water. Arsenic, a naturally occurring, odorless and tasteless semi-metallic chemical known for its qualities as a poison for centuries is found in high quantities in many of the water supplies in western Nepal. Filtration systems were set up in three locations while in Nepal with arsenic contaminations as high as 100 times the World Health Organization’s recommended limit. An additional 45 arsenic remediation filters were left in Nepal to be installed at a later date. FBC is working with Texas Baptist Men’s Water Purification Division (who developed the arsenic remediation filters that are being utilized) to raise awareness and funding for arsenic remediation filtration systems in Nepal. There are thousands of wells in Nepal with high arsenic contamination. Arsenic builds up in the body over time and causes lesions on the hands and feet, intestinal problems, liver problems, and a greatly elevated incidence of cancer. Individuals or congregations interested in assisting with ministry opportunities in Nepal can call Charlie Crane at (575)760-4199.

Pastor Claude Vigil and Pastor Dave received a warm welcome along with the other speakers.
